Drone survey and UAV 3D modelling

UAV 3D mapping

Our UAV drone survey and 3D modelling service is a quick and cost effective solution to heritage building owners, surveyors and planners.

Building managers and facility management can utilise UAV surveys for conditional reporting on roofs and cladding. By using a drone to complete this type of work the health and safety risk of staff working at heights is reduced.

UAV survey photogrammetry and accuracy

Working with highly experienced surveyors. Aerial Media Scotland’s drone survey service operates UAV’s to capture high resolution aerial photographs. Following the drone survey flight. The latest photogrammetry software is used to produce orthophotos, digital elevation models as well as panoramic views and 3D models.

With the use of this software and the inflight data from the UAV. Highly accurate 3D models can be created. The UAV survey accuracy can down to sub 20mm with 1cm GSD per pixel. This can be made more accurate with use of ground laser scanning and additional control points being added by the ground control.

Planning and coverage

drone surveying

Using the Asctec Falcon 8 drone and it’s planning software, drone surveying can be planned easily. This software gives the UAV pilot a good understanding of how long a drone survey will take. How many flights are involved and calculates the GSD. All this is achieved prior to deploying to site, to ensure the client is satisfied with the final outputs.

What sectors can a drone survey?

UAV’s are more widely recognised for their efficiency and safety in producing high resolution photogrammetry outputs. A number of sectors are recognising their value in delivering cost effective UAV 3D models, elevation plans and close visual inspections. The construction industry as well as historic and heritage building societies are keen to have models created.

Within the construction industry, UAV survey can be used at the planning stage to assist with setting out, through to the construction phase to monitor progress then on to completion. At the completion phase a drone survey can produce an “as build” model for future planning and maintenance.
