Aerial video and aerial photography equipment using a drone has just stepped up another gear with the DJI Inspire 1
The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), but more commonly none as drones or civil drones for commercial photography and video filming use within the UK is legislated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The legislation allows for pilots to be qualified up to a maximum drone weight of 20Kg but within this qualification there is a dividing point at 7Kg. This is where the DJI Inspire 1 comes in.
As an aerial photographer I’m most concerned with picture quality of the final images and as such use a heavy lift Octocopter carrying a Sony NEX 7 camera, as mentioned in a previous article, however this weights 9.5Kg at take off. The new DJI 1 inspire weights just under 3Kg at take off. Compared to other drones where you have to match the camera to the gimbal and then match it all to the drone, the Inspire 1 comes complete with camera, gimbal and UAV.
UAV / Drone video and camera equipment
The complete kit is very impressive with the onboard built in camera capable of taking 24M pixel RAW DNG files, 1080, 720 HD video and the incredible, though storeage busting 4K video format. The drone can be flown by one person or by a pilot and separate camera operator which helps to ease the workload on the pilot and improve safety.
Additionally the controllers also allow for a 1080HD output to s speaker screen or for a live feed to the client!
Have a look below at the specifications of this very effective drone.
